Matters of the organizational heart: have you checked your pulse?
We point to the importance of ‘real time’ a lot. Today, we’d like to talk a little bit about the heart. You know, the ticker you (hopefully) take good care of. Because what’s more ‘real time’ than your heartbeat?
The human body: a well-oiled machine
You need to be careful with your heart. It’s paramount that you keep it in good condition. To do so, you need to make sure your body remains a well-oiled machine. Nature has created a mechanism to help you out. All body parts are constantly on alert. They know what to do, and if something isn’t functioning the way it should, you are immediately notified. This is why you feel pain in real time: if you get up in the morning with a nagging headache, your body is trying to draw attention to a certain problem. Why? So you can act on it right away.
This is particularly important when it comes to (literal) matters of the heart. If something’s going on, minutes can make a world of difference. The sooner a problem is detected, the higher a person’s chance of survival. Because ultimately, it’s all about keeping the heart beating.
Feeling your organization’s heartbeat: now, not after the fact
Do you treat your organization the way you treat your body? We’re not saying the two are equally important, but let’s draw an analogy. If employees receive information in real time through targeted BI, they can solve problems as they occur. Never again will they have to deal with today’s issues tomorrow. There is no ‘after the fact.’ If your organization’s heartbeat is felt in all the vessels of your company – from sales to logistics – through Visual Management, you will always be alerted on time. You’ll run a viable organization that will be a breath of fresh air for customers and employees alike!
